The expedition

Sri Lanka has 34 endemic bird species packed into an island you can cross in a day. This circuit is built to find as many as possible, with mornings timed for the feeding flocks, local experts who know the territories, and time to photograph rather than just tick.

Day by day

  1. Days 1–3

    Sinharaja rainforest

Three mornings with the mixed-species flocks, plus owls, frogmouths and trogons, and night walks for reptiles and frogs.

Pair of Sri Lanka frogmouths roosting together
  2. Days 4–5

    Highlands & Horton Plains

Cool cloud forest for the highland endemics, with dawn on the plains.

Dull-blue flycatcher perched on a mossy branch
  3. Days 6–7

    Bundala & the south coast

Lagoons full of migrant waders, plus dry-zone specialists in the scrub before departure.
