Horton Plains

A high, misty plateau of grassland and cloud forest, home to highland endemic birds, sambar deer and the drop at World's End.

At over 2,000 metres, Horton Plains is cool, wild and often wrapped in mist. Early mornings bring the highland endemics, the sought-after whistling thrush among them, and herds of sambar on the grassland.

When to go

January to April for the clearest mornings.

What you’ll see

Highland birds, sambar deer, and the chance of a leopard on the plains at dawn.
